Abbey Manor Assisted Living
Abbey Manor Assisted Living is first and foremost a home, so it is designed to make our residents feel at home. An inviting entrance with a cozy, enclosed porch leads into a large and attractively-appointed atrium-style living area where residents can enjoy a cup of coffee, play dominoes, read a magazine, sing along with the piano, or relax together to watch the news or a classic movie.
The Commons Area opens into the Dining Room, which also opens into the kitchen. The home-cooking scents emanating from the kitchen entice everyone into the Commons Area for three generous, tasty meals - breakfast, lunch with a hot entree, and a light-fare supper featuring sandwiches, soups and salads. There is a patio where residents can relax outdoors when weather permits.
On two wings are additional common areas for activities and visits with family and friends, and our resident suites. Each suite includes
- a bedroom and bath with walk-in shower
- access to cable TV and telephone service
- a heating and air-conditioning unit that residents can adjust for personal comfort
- emergency pull-cords (bedroom and bathroom).
We encourage residents to appoint and decorate their own rooms, but we also provide furnishings for anyone who prefers not to bring their own.
OUR CARE PROGRAM
Talk to our family members and you will learn that Abbey Manor's reputation is for consistently excellent care, thanks to the quality of our staff, our small size and our low care ratio (on the first two shifts, 1:8 -- not including management, nursing, kitchen and housekeeping staff; 1:16 on the third). Fostering our residents' independence, individuality, and dignity is a key focus of our orientation and training programs, which cover such topics as: normal and abnormal physiology of aging, end-of-life care, diabetes, fall prevention, nutrition and hydration, and approaches for managing the symptoms of early dementia.
Our full-time Health Services Director, an R.N. with diverse experience in geriatric settings, oversees the care of our residents. She monitors their health status and works with their doctors and family members to maintain their optimal wellbeing. In addition to being on-site 40 hours a week, she is on-call on weekends and after hours to guide other staff in the event of a medical or care management problem.
Abbey Manor's director and two house managers oversee the kitchen, housekeeping, care-giving and activity staff. The entire staff works as a team, so that each individual member can develop his or her unique talents and form meaningful relationships with our residents.
TIME WELL SPENT
We believe that time at Abbey Manor should be time well spent. Our activities program includes a variety of diversions that are designed to stimulate, engage and entertain our residents. Exercise programs and walks, crafts and games, and visits from children's groups and Pets on Wheels are complemented by outings for picnics, luncheons, local music and theatre performances, and tours of local attractions.
Keeping residents occupied and busy is a priority shared by all. In addition to group activities, one-on-one time is encouraged so that our aides provide companionship and emotional support to residents as well assist them with activities of daily living.
