An assisted living facility can be ideal for seniors who need some assistance with activities of daily living "ADLs", but are otherwise able to live and function for the most part on their own. Assisted living is usually in an apartment like setting which usually includes meals, some housekeeping and laundry services, and if needed assistance with bathing, dressing, ambulating, and medication assistance. Some senior assisted living communities have specialized units designed with safety features for patients suffering from dementia. Assisted living homes may also have customized memory care programs that may help to maintain or improve cognitive function in assisted living residents.
Most senior assisted living facilities will create a unique care plan for each resident to ensure that every person receives exactly the services he or she needs while maintaining his or her lifestyle. Residents in assisted living centers are evaluated regularly with services tailored to their changing needs. The services and level of care available in an assisted living facility, as well as the costs for these services, can vary. Assisted living costs may be all inclusive, or the costs of assisted living services may be added to a base monthly fee.
Assisted living homes may also be referred to as a Personal Care Home, Adult Family Home, Residential Care Facility, Board and Care, Long Term Care Facilities, or Adult Congregate Care.
